Department: Claims Department
Reporting to: Chief Operations Officer

Our client, an insurance company that is licensed to transact all lines of general insurance business solutions is looking to hire competent Head of Claims and Legal personnel. The IDEAL candidate should have MINIMUM of 8 years in general insurance, 3 in a Managerial role. The job holder will be responsible for the effective and efficient management of the entire Claims Department encompassing Claims, Legal and Administrations functions.

Specific Tasks Performed and Key responsibilities:

• Provides effective Leadership and ensures effective and efficient management of Staff and resources in the entire Claims department
• Provide an assessment and advice management accordingly
• Review and advice Management on legal implications of Internal Policies and procedures
• Review Contracts, agreements and internal policies to ensure they are in compliance with all statutory or legal requirements
• Periodic reviews of Litigation matters and processes and management of External lawyers
• Continuously monitor compliance with statutory obligations and advise Management accordingly
• Review all contracts or other documentation where the Company has committed itself and assess legal implications that need to be brought to Executive Managements attention
• Negotiate and review contracts with external service providers and prepare the necessary checklist to be adopted for dealing with them
• Ensure service providers are appointed promptly and offer effective service delivery
• Provide Continuous leadership, supervision, training and development of staff ensuring an effective and motivated team
• Approve repairs, cost and fees in claims process
• Schedule payments for claimants and service providers
• Ensure submission of necessary reports
• Take responsibility for all claim related negotiations
• Negotiate and approve out of court settlements
• Review approval of investigators requisitions

Professional Qualifications:

• BCom Insurance degree Or preferably both LLB and BCom Insurance
• A Master’s Degree will be an added advantage
• Diploma In Insurance desirable / ACII
• Membership of a Professional Body
• Excellent Interpersonal and communications skills & Leadership and Management Skills
